This sculpture series critically examines the prelapsarian utopian idealism found in Traditional Neighborhood Development tenants, and the hubris of architects who believe that society’s salvation can be brought about through design.

The sculptures are comprised of 200 two and one inch wooden cubes. Each cube is inscribed with diagrams based on actual towns built or rehabilitated according to Traditional Neighborhood Development tenants. Through the diagrams, architecture is revealed as a set of visual signs that are employed by designers to communicate cultural morals, standards, and ideals. Viewers arrange and rearrange the cubes in order to create personal visual languages that overcome the restrictive lexicon from which they are drawn.
